Career day for Meyer

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Mike Meyer missed a 22-yard field goal and the Iowa Hawkeyes lived to tell about it.
The true freshman pulled a 22-yard attempt that would've given No. 15 Iowa a 9-6 halftime lead. Every field goal kicker would say that's a cardinal sin, but Iowa lived to tell and Meyer went ahead and had a career day anyway.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder made 4 of 5 field goals, including a career-long 42-yarder that pulled Iowa within 13-12 with 8:33 left in the fourth quarter. This season, the former Dubuque Wahlert prep has made 9 of 11 field goals. Before his 22-yard miss, he had a streak of seven consecutive.
"Since we're talking about freshmen, I'll throw Mike Meyer in there, too," Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. "That last field goal was not a routine chip shot. He really came through there. I know he missed one earlier. He showed some resiliency there by coming back and getting that field goal for us."
