To the editor:
We have a responsibility to leave a clean, healthy planet for future generations.
Climate change is affecting our lives, contributing to extreme weather conditions and rising health problems. The EPA's Clean Power Plan will protect Iowa communities by taking steps to reduce carbon pollution from power plants, protecting those who are vulnerable to the harmful impact of pollution and bettering quality of life for all who live here.
Energy efficiency is the best way to work toward a cleaner future by using less electricity and fuels and lowering the amount of harmful emissions. Supporting the Clean Power Plan means our state government would continue to reduce Iowa's emissions, giving residents healthier conditions and contributing to the future health of the planet for our children and grandchildren.
The Clean Power Plan will reduce taxpayer costs. By using less power in buildings and transportation, the government will be spending less and the same applies to our homes and workplaces. The growing number of sources for clean energy will create thousands of jobs across the nation, something that's already begun to show in Iowa. The threats that climate change presents are growing, but we can do something about it.
