Letter: Vacant church ideal location for library

As I sat in Marion Square enjoying the music of Bob and Kristie Black during the Marion Heritage Society's Picnic in the Park, I had an excellent view of the businesses that make up the small strip mall near the park.
I could see that each was occupied by a business bringing in revenue for the business owners and tax dollars for the City of Marion. I also know that the Marion Methodist Church just a short distance away is for sale as that congregation prepares to move to a new facility on the edge of Marion.
Something clicked. I wondered to myself, why tear down businesses to build a new library when a beautiful building nearby will soon be vacant and looking for a new tenant? I understand it is an old building. I understand it will need a great deal of work to bring it into the 21st century. However, when you make that investment you will have a unique library that will be like none other in the United States. Isn't that worth a little thought?
