Lewis, Charlotte W.
Charlotte W. Lewis, 95, of Marion, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha on Thursday, April 19, 2012. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Manchester. Chaplain Joe Kane will officiating.
Charlotte is survived by daughters, Roberta (David) Teller of Phoenix, Ariz., Charlene (Steve) Schwiebert of Cedar Rapids and Sue Ann (Harvey) Whitney of Valentine, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Marie Lewis of Carroll; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; son, Robert Lewis; and her parents.
Charlotte Winifred Lewis was born June 25, 1916, to Julius and Nellie (Seavy) Vollbrecht, in Osage, Iowa. On Dec. 30, 1942, she married Gerald E. Lewis in Wichita Falls, Texas. Charlotte had a variety of jobs throughout her life. She worked as a teacher, caretaker, clerk, and policewoman for the city of Manchester.
In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, latch hook rugs, and other crafts. She also loved spending time with her family, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Her spirit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Matthew Fox and Dr. Fadi Yacoub. They also want to give special thanks to Chaplain Joe Kane and the staff at the Hospice House of Mercy for their excellent care and attention.
