No person is judge, jury and executioner
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the Feb. 6 letter “Scott Roeder's trial was a setup” in which the writer made the following comment about the coldblooded murder of Kansas doctor George Tiller: “If the jury was presented with how many late-term abortions Tiller had performed, they would be glad someone put an end to it.”
Abortion is a legal procedure about which people's opinions disagree. Shame on anyone who hopes that any jury will ever find it justification for putting a bullet into a doctor's brain or chest.
If you believe Roeder's line of thinking was justified, then couldn't someone also start killing people who advocate violence against abortion providers and claim they were justified because they were defending the lives of the providers? What society can ever allow individuals with some cause or another to be judge, jury and executioner? Roeder is a terrorist who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.
