Police say Illinois woman used 'edged weapon' in attack in North Liberty Casey's

Apr. 6, 2012 2:05 pm
North Liberty police on Thursday afternoon arrested a Rock Island, Ill., woman who they say “used an edged weapon” to threaten another person inside a Casey's General Store.
Stephanie Joy Wauqua, 34, is accused of threatening another person with a weapon inside the store, 595 N. Kansas Ave., about 3 p.m. Thursday, according to a criminal complaint. The incident led to a car chase on northbound I-380, according to the complaint.
North Liberty police Chief Jim Warkentin told The Gazette on Thursday that workers in the Casey's said a woman tried to stab another woman and they stopped the attack by wresting the knife away.
Both women left the store together and got into the same car that was being driven by a third person, according to Warkentin. Officers caught up with the vehicle a short time later on I-380, he said.
According to a second criminal complaint, Wauqua appeared to be intoxicated but refused a blood alcohol test.
No one was injured in the incident, according to police.
Wauqua faces charges of public intoxication and going armed with intent. She was still being held at the Johnson County Jail on Friday afternoon in lieu of a $10,000 cash-only bond.
