Maintain political balance with comics

While I agree with The Gazette's decision to drop the weekly “Doonesbury” strip (the author is on hiatus), I hope editors might reconsider their choices for a possible replacement.
Why not replace Doonesbury with another editorial comic strip? There are plenty of excellent strips to choose from, such as “Candorville” by Darrin Bell. Editorial comics such as “Doonesbury” and “Mallard Filmore” serve an important function in the newspaper, as these strips often raise difficult points in a casual manner, making divisive topics accessible and conversational.
Additionally, the physical placement of “Doonesbury” next to “Mallard Filmore” provided a wonderful balance in viewpoint. Please consider keeping two topical strips in the comics page; readers appreciate their varied candor and perspective.
