An Iowa City woman was arrested Sunday night after officers observed the woman trying to take care of her 8-month-old daughter while heavily intoxicated.
According to criminal complaints, police responded to 436 Southgate Avenue, No. 201 at 10:16 p.m. to execute a welfare check on 26-year-old Nicole D. Delvichio. Officers observed Delvichio sitting in a chair with her child when the child's foot became stuck in the chair and the woman was too drunk to realize it.
Police said Delvichio began to attempt to pull and jerk the child out of the chair, risking injury to the stuck foot. Officers entered the apartment and removed the child's foot from the chair. Delvichio then attempted to stand up with the child and fell over, being caught by officers, police said.
Delvichio allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .281 and was placed under arrest. Officers said once Delvichio was placed in handcuffs, she proceeded to kick the officers multiple times.
Delvichio was charged with child endangerment and assault on peace officers, both misdemeanors. She is being held in Johnson County Jail on a $7,500 cash only bond.
