Iowa City police review board member found not guilty

Iowa City Police Citizen Review Board member Royceann Porter expressed that she was “pleased” about being acquitted this morning on charges of disorderly house after her 17-year-old daughter's birthday party was reported as “out of control” in March.
Porter and her Attourney Ray Scheetz believe that the Iowa City Police Department took more extreme actions against her than they would other community members because of the dissenting views of police activity that she has expressed while working on the Review Board.
According to Porter and Sheetz, Porter lost her job at Four Oaks as a result of pressure by Iowa City Police and the charges brought against her, even though they had asked that the organization wait until the court made a decision regarding the charge.
Porter says that although she has forgiven those involved in the incident, she cannot forget. She does not believe she will get her job back at Four Oaks.
“I feel that the local media reported allegations against me as fact,” Porter said. “I want an opportunity to get my name back.”
