Doty, Virginia M.
Virginia M. Doty of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died July 11, 2012.
She was born in Davenport, Iowa, daughter of Lloyd C. and Mabel (Woodly) Held. She grew up in the Rock Falls, Iowa area. After graduating from Rock Falls High School, she was employed by the government at the Hartford, Wash., atomic energy plant, later moving to Cedar Rapids, where she met her future husband while both worked at the old Merchants National Bank. She and Lee were married after his discharge from the Army in St. Louis on Aug. 16, 1952. She spent many years in the insurance industry, retiring in 1985. In 1991, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., to enjoy their retirement years in the Valley of the Sun.
Survivors include her husband, Leland; brothers, David (Dottie) Held and Tom (Lettie) Held; sister-in-law, Altamay Held; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Held; and sister, Darleen Held.
Arrangements by Bunker Funeral Home, Mesa, with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
