CEDAR RAPIDS – On Thurs., Nov. 3, beginning at 9:30 a.m., Mercy Medical Center, 701 10th Street S.E., will host approximately 25 local high school students for Mercy Health Academy Day. This event is coordinated through Workplace Learning Connection (WLC). Students interested in healthcare careers applied for a job shadow experience through the WPLC. Also included in this group is a Health Science Academy class from Linn Mar. These students are taking a college-level class through Kirkwood Community College.
Students will have the unique opportunity to observe healthcare professionals in their work settings. Fourteen departments at Mercy have volunteered to host students, encompassing nearly every clinical and outpatient area in the hospital. Departments involved include Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pathology Lab, Operating Room, Orthopedics, Pharmacy, Speech Pathology, Oncology, and others.
“Lunch and Learn” sessions will also be included over the noon hour. Students will have the opportunity to discuss careers in healthcare with Mercy professionals.
