NO. 3 IN NATIONAL HOSPITAL CARE RANKINGS: A health care research company in Denver that studied 500 hospitals ranked the Cedar Rapids area third in its Top Cities for Hospital Care in America report. Baltimore and Phoenix were 1-2. HealthGrades evaluated hospitals for their rate of complications and deaths in 26 procedures and diagnoses - in other words, a more comprehensive look. Mercy and St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids and Mercy Iowa City were included in the Cedar Rapids area.

HD MOVE: Congrats to our SourceMedia Group sibling, KCRG-TV9, for a successful conversion to high-definition broadcasting, which began a week ago. It's a big investment of money, time and work to add the technology that will improve news, weather and local programming quality.

MORE HIRES: Nearly two-thirds of 65 Eastern Iowa employers surveyed by Cambridge Staffing plan to hire additional workers in the first quarter of this year, with the number of hires projected to be up 57 percent compared with results of a Cambridge survey in June.
