Keck, Robert John
Robert John Keck, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away June 20, 2012.
Robert “Bob” was born July 16, 1917, to John H. Keck and Effie Binning Keck on a farm in Colesburg, Iowa and was a Colesburg High School graduate.
Bob married Kathryn Gienapp of Manchester, Iowa in 1940. Bob was a lifetime Delaware County farmer, a two-decade owner of Keck Insurance Agency and served on numerous community and civic boards in the Delaware County area. He also served many years as a DHIA supervisor in the county.
Bob has been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Delaware, Iowa, since his marriage where he and Kathryn especially enjoyed serving as youth group sponsors. Bob loved all music from classical to country and sang with the Christmas Messiah program for many years. In his later and inactive years he enjoyed Christian radio and Christian music on TV. Other interests included horseback riding and Hawkeye football and basketball.
After living in Delaware County for 82 years, Bob and Kathryn moved to Indianapolis in 2002 to be closer to their two children, Robert William Keck and William John Keck. Two grandchildren, Robert Allen Keck and Julie Kathryn Keck, and four great-grandchildren, Robert John Keck II (his namesake), Kathryn Elizabeth Keck, Nathan John Champley and Bethany Jane Champley (the apples of his eye) also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Karl and Ivan, and is survived by his wife, Kathryn, and sister, Marylou Beswick of Manchester, Iowa.
Having been married 72 years and inseparable until his death, Robert and Kathryn will be interred together at a future date in Pine View Cemetery, Delaware, after a service of Christian burial at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware.
