Miller, Richard N. 'Dick'
Richard N. “Dick” Miller, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where the family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elda; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Lyon, Leila Brennaman, LaVonne Spicer and Doris Lentz; and brothers, LaVerne, Robert and Donald.
Dick was born in Linn County, Iowa, on July 11, 1933, the son of Eugene and Veva (Hammond) Miller. He was a musician since childhood. Dick played with Kenny Hofer and other area bands. He formed the Dick Miller & Rhythmasters Band, playing area ballrooms in the 1960s through the 1970s. Dick then went into his other passion, bus driving. He drove a professional tour bus for over 20 years for Charter Coaches, later Trailways.
Dick's retirement years were spent watching sporting events, music, refurbishing antiques, day trips and flea markets. He was a member of the Eagle Lodge for over 50 years and Masonic Lodge 6.
Memorials may be made to the donor's charity of choice in memory of Dick.
