Kress, Erwin L.
Erwin L. Kress, 68, of Quasqueton, died Monday evening, Dec. 28, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Church, Quasqueton, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until services Thursday at the church.
Erwin was born Dec. 31, 1940, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Dale L. and Elva L. (Love) Kress. He was a 1960 graduate of Quasqueton High School in Quasqueton. On Sept. 3, 1961, he was married to Wanda Lou Hotchkiss in Lamont. The couple resided in Quasqueton, where Erwin owned and operated the Kress Blacksmith Shop (Kress Heating, Plumbing, and Electric) until his retirement.
Erwin was a member of the Quasqueton Fire Department for 42 years, serving as fire chief. He enjoyed his work, fishing, camping, card playing, and square dancing. He especially loved his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou Kress; three children, Dean (Teresa) Kress, Quasqueton, Tom (Rhonda) Kress, Sergeant Bluff, and Melinda (James) Mormann, Johnston, and six grandchildren, Alyssa and Zachary Kress, Brett Jenness, Nicole Kress, Brianna and Collin Mormann.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
