Remona G. Roth, 96, died peacefully at her Iowa City home, on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, after a long and fulfilled life. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established in Remona's memory.

Remona Gladys Campbell was born April 26, 1916, in Sharon Township, the daughter of Earl L. and Viola Beals Campbell. Remona graduated from Cosgrove Consolidated High School in 1934, and worked in Iowa City at Kelly's Restaurant. After completing the Iowa City Chamber of Commerce course in Salesmanship and Personal Efficiency, she worked many years as floor walker at Woolworth's Department Store.

On Oct. 19, 1941, Remona married Roy Daniel Roth at the Evangelical Church parsonage of Windham, Iowa. The couple made their home in Iowa City. The Roth family camped and traveled together, a love which Roy and Remona continued after their children were no longer at home. Roy preceded her in death in 1987.

Primarily a homemaker throughout her married life, Remona worked a variety of jobs. She was one of the first two crossing guards hired by the Iowa City Police Department for the safety of the school children. She continued to serve the children of Horace Mann Elementary for 21 years. Remona worked many years as coordinator of data collection for R.L. Polk Company's Iowa City Directory.

Remona Roth was a member of First United Methodist Church for 65 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, and Roy and Remona served the fellowship hour together for three years. An active member of the United Methodist Women, Remona held several offices in the organization and in her circles. She supplied many handmade crafts for church bazaars, volunteered at rummage sales and other fund raisers, as well as funeral dinners and other activities. She initiated and directed the making of a cookbook, which provided funds for air conditioning the church.

Besides her church activities, Remona served as Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Along with Roy, she was secretary of Good Sam's Camping Club and was active in the National Campers' and Hikers' Association.

Left to celebrate her life are three children, Linda Hemminger and husband Bruce of Champaign, Ill., Lorraine Hartman and husband Kenneth Sr., of Delhi, and Gregory E. Roth of Iowa City.

Also remaining are grandsons, Jeffrey D. Hemminger and wife Helkei of Guam, Daniel R. Hemminger and wife Kimberly of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Ethan R. Roth of North Liberty. Remona leaves two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Tucker Hemminger. She has one surviving brother-in-law, Orville Kinsinger of Solon, and a sister-in-law, Betty Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy; four siblings, Luretta Kinsinger, Dorthy Campbell, Kathleen Kinsinger and Earl L. Campbell Jr.; and one brother-in-law, Clifford Kinsinger.
