Simons, Clayton M.
Clayton M. Simons, 52, of Coralville, chose to end his life following a long struggle with many challenges. A Celebration of Life service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Audubon Society.
Clayton was born Aug. 30, 1957, in Ames, Iowa, the son of Marr and Jean (Harris) Simons. He was a 1976 graduate of Ames High School. Following high school, Clayton graduated from DMACC with a degree in auto mechanics and worked as an auto mechanic for several years before going to work for Procter and Gamble from 1980-1998. Later, Clayton graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree in accounting and worked several tax seasons for H&R Block.
Clayton enjoyed sailing and was passionate about bird watching and woodworking. He was a member of The Honor Society of Two-year Colleges for Scholastic Excellence, Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), Phi Theta Kappa and The Audubon Society.
He is survived by his parents, Marr and Jean of Litchfield Park, Ariz.; his two children, Robert and Rachel Simons of Iowa City; a brother, Randy Simons of Albuquerque, N.M.; his former wife, Margaret Adams of Iowa City; and his dear friends, John, Jo, Jack and Michael Greve of North Liberty.
Clayton was preceded in death by his grandparents.
