Lighty, Delores June
Delores June Lighty, 69, of Arlington, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short-term illness. Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Arlington United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Lisa Schroeder. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Inurnment: Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington.
Delores June Opperman was born June 1, 1942, in rural Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of Reginald “Bud” and Erma Louise (Lickiss) Opperman. In 1960, she graduated from the Arlington High School. On Aug. 31, 1960, Delores was united in marriage to David Lighty at the Methodist Church in Strawberry Point. They later divorced. She worked at Maryville Café, The Chaperell, and Welcome Inn as a cook. She was an active member United Methodist Church, Choir, Women's Circle and served as the church treasurer.
Since December, she had been a resident at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with family and friends, gardening and taking care of others.
Delores is survived by her three daughters, Deborah (Bill) Lafler of Anamosa, Darla (Mark) Zabicki of Tavares, Fla., andDeAnn (Lyle) Gibbs of Manchester; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, LaVon (Don) Lux of Jesup; and brother, Duane Eckheart of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald “Bud” Opperman and Erma and Dorn Eckh.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
