Dunne, Laverne M.
Laverne M. Dunne, 81, of Dubuque, died at 6:27 p.m. Sunday. Nov. 28, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Key West, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
She was born June 12, 1929, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Bert and Mabel (Mullen) Coakley. She married Orland J. Dunne on Nov. 7, 1956, at St. Lawrence Church, Otter Creek. He preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 2002.
In her earlier years, she taught school in Andrew, and in later years in Maquoketa.
She is survived by her six children, Kevin (Lorie) Dunne of Wyoming, Iowa, Karen (Dan) Steffen of Zwingle, Sharon (Doug) Swanson of Eldridge, David (Carol) Dunne of Cedar Rapids, Bryan Dunne, of Marion, and Steven “Whitey” Dunne of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; and a brother, Bertrand “Butch” (Bonnie) Coakley of Otter Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orland; three brothers, Donald, Paul and Loran; and a sister, Charlene.
In lieu of flowers, a Laverne M. Dunne memorial fund has been established.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Laverne.
