McCreedy, Nancy Jeanne (May)

On Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, Nancy Jeanne (May) McCreedy of Boones Mill, Va., lost her 10-year battle with leukemia. She is now at peace with the Lord, but she left a void here on earth that can never be filled. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Vaughn Chapel on the Ferrum College campus in Ferrum, Va.

Nancy was born July 16, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Jefferson High School, graduating in 1960. She met and married Kenneth McCreedy, also of Cedar Rapids, in 1962. She was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, earning a bachelor's degree in fashion design and a master's degree in art education. She became interested in the field of corrections and worked as a probation and parole officer for the Florida Department of Corrections in Orlando and for the Virginia Department of Corrections in Roanoke. She retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections in January 2008.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale E. May; an uncle, Robert Preston; and an aunt, Maxine Gnagy.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth McCreedy of Boones Mill; and her mother, Doris May; a brother, David May; a sister-in-law, Debbie May; and a nephew, Ryan May, all of Cedar Rapids. She also has a niece, Amy Fortner, and a grandnephew, Austin Fortner, of Rowley; and a godson, Jonathan Kerr of Richmond, Va.

The family requests contributions be made in her name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, Va.
