Carl N. Kleitsch, 89, of Monticello, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello.

Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
Carl was born June 1, 1924, in Walker, Iowa, the son of Nick and Carrie (Kurt) Kleitsch. He attended rural schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Cascade. Carl worked on farms in the area, then did some share farming. After that, he worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa and John Deere Dubuque Works, until he retired. He married Mary Marugg on March 6, 1964, in Mount Carroll, Ill.
Carl was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council for over 65 years and the Monticello Lions Club. As a young man, Carl loved racing stock cars and dancing. Carl enjoyed eating out with family, playing cards with his brothers and sisters, watching sports, going to stock car races and riding RAGBRAI for 15 years with his wife, Mary.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; stepchildren, Lois Newholm of Marion and Danny (Linda) Bauer of Monticello; a daughter, Debra (Dave) Meyers of Monticello; grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Bauer, Cory (friend Melanie Wilson) Bauer and Troy (friend Brandy Dietiker) Bauer, Chelsea, Kathryn and Nicholas Meyers; four great-grandchildren, Lexi, Rylee and Breanna Bauer and Chase Bauer; siblings, Leona Onken, Sister Ruth Kleitsch and Wilfred (Rita) Kleitsch, all of Monticello, Edwin and Irvin Kleitsch, Marion (Bob) Hosch, all of Cascade; and in-laws, Margaret Faust of Edgewood, Helen (Dave) Sackett of Anamosa and Charlotte (Dale) Lowrey of Fostoria, Ohio, Irene Marugg of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Peggy Marugg of Franklin, Ky., and Nadine Marugg and Darlene Marugg, both of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Charles Bauer; a stepson-in-law, Craig Newholm; and in-laws, Alve Onken, Doloris Kleitsch, Carol Kleitsch, Robert Marugg, Russell Marugg, Richard Marugg, John Marugg, James Marugg, Fritz Marugg and Loren Faust.
Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
