Parts of Eastern Iowa could see more than three inches of snow from the season's first significant winter storm, starting as early as Friday afternoon.
"Snow should begin to spread over the area through Friday afternoon, with the main batch of accumulating snow arriving after sunset. Most of the snow will fall overnight Friday night into Saturday morning, with snowfall tapering off around midday Saturday," KCRG-TV9 Meteorologist Justin Gehrts said. "The wind will pick up a bit on Saturday though, so the 10-20 mph winds may cause some blowing and drifting in spots."
Most of northern Iowa is expected to see more three to six inches of snow from the storm by Saturday afternoon. Cedar Rapids and Waterloo are expected to see one to three inches, and southeast Iowa should see up to an inch by the time the storm wraps up.
Colder weather is expected to arrive in the storm's wake, with highs early next week only expected in the teens.
