Follow the money to former Sinclair plant
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 12, 2010 12:30 am
I can join Michelle Obama in being proud of my country (though not the first time for this writer). The notion that Cedar Rapids might have received $18 million for a derelict pile of contaminated bricks like the former Sinclair plant made me squeamish.
How easy to forget that all that money would have come from someone's paycheck and out of their family budget. Federal Emergency Management Agency monies thus disbursed would have demonstrated the worst of a democracy. Instead, the bureaucrats deserve credit and have restored a little of my faith in government.
