Gaines, James L. 'Jim'
James L. “Jim” Gaines, 81, of Iowa City, died Thursday, July 11, 2013. Memorial services, with military honors, will be 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until services Monday and following the services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory.

Jim served his country in the United Navy during the Korean conflict. He returned to Iowa and married Marilyn J. Michel in 1959 in Iowa City. Here he worked as a machinist with the University of Iowa Mechanical Instrument Shop for nearly 30 years before his retirement.
He has always enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping and boating. He was a talented wood worker, member of the NRA, First Assembly of God Church and the Navigators.
His family includes his wife, Marilyn; daughters and their husbands, Katrina and Butch Huggins of Iowa City and Kelly and Monty Huddleston of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Adam Huggins (Amanda) of Iowa City, Brandi Haines (Spencer) of Iowa City, Kelsey Huddleston (Jesse Jamison) of Cedar Rapids and Haley Huddleston of Cedar Rapids; one great-granddaughter, Harper Jamison; and two sisters, Emma Marie Mills of Iowa City and Patricia George of California.
