Kathryn Justice
KATHRYN VERNA HILLER JUSTICE
Robins
Kathryn Verna Hiller Justice, 98, of Robins, joined Christ in Heaven on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, her family is forever grateful for her life and legacy.
Kathryn was born Sept. 3, 1917, at the family home in rural Louisa County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dean Justice; her parents; three siblings; and a son-in-law, Eugene Schmidt.
She is survived by her and Harold's nine children, Dr. Robert (Ruth) Justice, Joan (Daryl) Spilde, Barbara (David) Stumbo, John (Patty) Justice, Dr. James (Sherrie) Justice, Mary (Perry) Johnson, Elizabeth Schmidt, Janice (Randall) Hartman and Christine (Mark) Awbrey; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Kathryn graduated as class valedictorian of Wapello High School in 1935 and went on to earn her B.S. in mathematics and physics at the University of Northern Iowa (formerly Iowa State Teacher's College). Kathryn taught in the Marion School District until marrying Harold in July 1943. Harold's service in the U.S. Navy took them to California, where Kathryn worked at the University of California at Berkeley on Oppenheimer's Manhattan Project.
Kathryn had a strong faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For much of her life she was involved in many church activities, developing and leading many Bible studies. In her later years, her handiwork reached many people around the world as a witness to the Gospel of Christ. Kathryn demonstrated her great enthusiasm for Christ to all she knew. Her proudest life achievement is having taught and lived out the love of Christ to her family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids. The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Faith Bible Church, 1800 46th St. NE, Cedar Rapids. Visitation also will be available one hour before the service. Graveside service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens, 2600 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City.
Kathryn's family would like to extend their deep gratitude to UnityPoint Hospice for their tremendous support and also for the many prayers offered by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Kathryn has requested memorials be made to Bridgehaven Pregnancy Support Center.
