Haynes, Warren
Warren Haynes, 90, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the Hopkinton Community Church with interment in the Hopkinton Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Hopkinton.

Survivors include three children, Joyce (John) Flanagan, Ryan, Janice (Don) Dehn, Kempner, Texas, and Julie Kremer, Clinton; four stepchildren, Carol (Allen) Martensen, Langworthy, Julie Benson, Cedar Rapids, Mary (Jim Kremer) Olmstead, Monticello, and Carl (Karen) Olmstead, Hopkinton; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Judy (Marland) Huls of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maxine; a granddaughter, Nicole Fjelstul; four brothers; and two sisters.
Warren Walter Haynes was born Dec. 10, 1921, at Manchester, Iowa. He was the son of Lester and Elsie Behning, Haynes. He received his education in the Copperhead School in rural Delaware County. Warren enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Brooklyn. He returned to Iowa following his military duty and married Edna Hawe on Dec. 22, 1946, at the Presbyterian Church in Manchester. They farmed in the Edgewood, Greeley and Delhi area. They later divorced.
When Warren left farming, he became a heavy equipment operator doing road construction. Warren and Maxine Dighton Olmstead were married on May 22, 1975, at the Hopkinton Presbyterian Church. The couple operated the Family Inn in Hopkinton for 20 years. Maxine preceded him in death on March 11, 2008.
