DeNota, Elsie Selma
Elsie Selma DeNota, 93, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at McGilley & Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Dr., Overland Park, KS 66204. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy, Mercy Foundation, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403; or to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1340 Third Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
Elsie was born Aug. 20, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1936. She married R. Vacil and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987. She worked for Kansas City Southern Lines for 30 years. She loved to sew, travel and to spend time with family and friends. She was always willing to give a helping hand and volunteered at church, R.S.V.P. and Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She accumulated over 6,500 hours of volunteer service at SMMC.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Carl; her sister, Agnes; and son-in-law, William Spellman; as well as three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Spellman of Cedar Rapids; son, Gary DeNota of Superior, Colo.; one granddaughter; three great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; one niece; and three nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all.
