By Heather Plate: The day started quietly. I was home that day, watching my oldest granddaughter who was ill. She was watching a kids show, so I decided I would go on the computer for a while. The first image I saw was a picture of one of the towers on fire. The story said that a plane had hit the building.
I decided to turn the TV channel to get some news about the crash. There was so much confusion and people frightened. Just then on live TV we saw the second plane hit the other tower. It felt like we were watching a movie, but it was not.
I felt sick to my stomach. It was unreal. How could this happen as the news unfolded. This is the United States, and we are protected from horrible acts of terrorism. That was the day we lost our innocence and our country was forever changed.
