Pete Carroll, meet Bryan Bulaga?
Mike Hlas Apr. 16, 2010 2:00 pm
The Seattle Seahawks, now coached and basically run by Pete Carroll, have the No. 6 pick in next Thursday night's NFL draft.
According to this mock draft by Wes Bunting of the very good National Football Post, Carroll will spend his first-round pick on Bryan Bulaga, offensive tackle from Iowa.
Says the Post:
Besides Okung, Bulaga looks like the draft's safest offensive tackle prospect and should instantly fill a major void in Seattle.
Bunting has Oklahoma State offensive tackle Okung going No. 4, to the Washington Redskins.
I fully admit, I'm not a football talent-evaluator of repute. I think I could have told NFL folks Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is someone who be an asset to their squads. But Bulaga? I had no idea.
I mean, obviously the guy had a lot of upside. But as a junior, No. 6 (or wherever he goes in the first round) in the draft? I wouldn't have predicted such a thing.
But what I do know is Bulaga is going to be very wealthy, very soon. And, he's going to be under the microscope. You spend a first-rounder on an offensive lineman, that guy better perform sooner rather than later.
In my dealings with him in interview sessions, Bulaga seems like a good guy, someone who will carry Iowa's name around well wherever he goes. I hope he ends up in a good situation, to whomever he's drafted next week.
Bulaga's future boss?
