We have the opportunity to improve water quality and the waterways and improve county parks and recreation trails through the approval of the Linn County Water and Land Legacy bond Nov. 8.
Well over half of the $40 million bond will be directed toward projects designed to improve water quality and to protect our county lands, which will help diminish flood potential through increasing the development of wetlands. Nearly a third of the bond will help improve our county parks and most of the remainder will be designated to update and improve our county trails.
The cost to the average homeowner is $2.25 per month. We can afford to approve this bond and cannot afford to delay its implementation. Water quality needs to be improved, recreational trails are becoming increasingly popular and utilized, and, unfortunately, the most recent flood will not be the last.
My wife and I have the privilege of living near Squaw Creek Park and enjoy walking along its trails. People who visit this beautiful park are no doubt happy to find well-maintained amenities nestled among woodlands, prairies and wetlands. Please join us in preserving all of Linn County's parks, waterways and trails for future generations.
