Lillian Loretta Schutzman McConnell, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2021, at her home. A private family service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Lillian McConnell, under the video tab, starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Christine) McConnell and Ron (Angie) McConnell, all of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Patricia (Dave) Cline of Norway, Iowa; a sister, Marilyn Kennedy of Cedar Rapids; and a good friend, Betty Lou Lint. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Amber and Patrick McConnell, Theresa Smyth, Stacey Primasing, Sherel Mainer and Ron and Alyson McConnell; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Von, who passed in 2016; five brothers and one sister.
Lilly was born Feb. 19, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Rehmiller Schutzman. On Jan. 15, 1952, she married Von McConnell at St. James Methodist Church on Ellis Boulevard in Cedar Rapids.
She worked at Wilson's Food Packing Plant/Farmstead Food for 30 years and later at St. Luke's Hospital for nine years in the Housekeeping Department before retiring.
Lillian was a lover of animals. She had many pet dogs and cats throughout the years and enjoyed taking her golden retriever, Max, on daily walks to parks and around her neighborhood. She was also known as having a green thumb. On sunny warm days, she enjoyed being outdoors tending to her garden and doing yard work. She also enjoyed her morning coffee and pastries, Wednesday visits from her sister and phone conversations with her friend Betty.
She will forever be remembered as a loving and caring wife, Mother and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew.
