Mowery, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Mowery, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha from congestive heart failure. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at the Conrad Cemetery.
Dorothy Mae Mowery was born Sept. 26, 1922, on the family farm in Conrad, Iowa to Charles and Elizabeth Wiener Slinker. She attended Conrad Consolidated Schools, graduating May 23, 1940. She married Leo F. Mowery on April 11, 1943. They were divorced in 1963. Dorothy retired from Smulekoff's Furniture in 1990 after 25 years.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Conrad. Dorothy loved to crochet, making afghans for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Lyle (Kathleen) Mowery of League City, Texas, Pat (Larry) Petty of Central City, and Clarence (Janette) Mowery and Carol (Tom) McNamara, both of Cedar Rapids; brother, Robert Slinker, and sister-in-law, Inez Slinker, both of Conrad; 10 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mildred Peters; and brothers, Russell and twin Donald, all of Conrad.
