The Dec. 11 Gazette featured a large ad recognizing Congressman Rod Blum's supposed advocacy for supporting Medicare for seniors. Ironically, this ad fails to mention that Congressman Blum voted in favor of a tax bill that would strip health care from 13 million people and cut funding for Medicare by $25 billion next year.
The bill, disguised as 'tax cuts” for the middle class, raises taxes on many seniors and eliminates deductions for medical expenses that many households rely upon. Republicans also have indicated that this bill will repeal key provisions under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest one percent of Americans. It is simple: this isn't a tax bill for the middle class, it is a tax cut for Republicans' wealthy donors, Wall Street executives, and corporations already earning record profits.
I don't think we should thank Rep. Blum for supporting seniors if he supports a tax bill that harms working families, veterans trying to find jobs, recent graduates trying to pay off student loans, and seniors who deduct medical expenses and receive assistance.
Please call Rod Blum at (202) 225-2911 or (319) 364-2288 and tell him to stop sabotaging health care and to vote no on this harmful tax bill.
