Backyard chickens the same as other pets

Regarding the Jan. 31 letter by Tom Lammers, “Little resident input on backyard chickens”:
I am not a resident of Marion, but I do have backyard chickens. They are our pets with benefits. A flock of six hens (which is all that will be allowed if the Marion ordinance passes) is not noisy except for an occasional “bawking,” which only lasts a moment while an egg is being produced, and with proper care they do not smell.
I would be willing to bet that the people crying “fowl” to backyard chickens are the same people who have obnoxious yappy dogs who leave their “dodo” along the sidewalk or in their neighbors' yards and/or allow their cats to use the neighborhood kids' sand boxes as litter boxes.
For crying out loud, quit being such a curmudgeon and maybe your neighbor will share some fresh eggs with you.
