Sperfslage, Joseph F.
Joseph F. Sperfslage, 77, of Coggon, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a sudden illness. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 2 p.m. Friends may continue to call Monday morning between 9 and 10 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ryan. Burial: 2 p.m. Monday, Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Castle Grove. Officiating will be the Rev. Jack Flaherty.
Joe was born March 14, 1933, in Delhi, Iowa, the son of Joseph J. and Iva Rose (Haas) Sperfslage. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Lila Mae Besler on April 29, 1958, in Worthington. Together they farmed near Prairieburg for over 50 years.
Joe enjoyed playing cards, going to auctions, reading, trap shooting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Lila Mae; his children, Jean (Daniel) Drummy of Ryan, Sharon (Chris) Manternach of Sand Springs, Joe (Anita) Sperfslage of Prairieburg, Alan (Lori) Sperfslage of Alburnett, David (Sue) Sperfslage of Central City, Linda (Andrew) Schwartz of Stoddard, Wis., and Danny (Tandi) Sperfslage of West Bend, Wis.; 16 grandchildren, Matthew, Deanne and Jennie Drummy, Byron, Erica and Jacob Manternach, Joe, Stephanie and Audrey Sperfslage, Ethan and Elizabeth Sperfslage, Lucas and Logan Sperfslage, Ryan and Zackary Schwartz, and Isabelle Sperfslage; and two sisters, Dolores Gassman of Iowa City and Eleanor Ryan of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alice Shae and Isabel Schuster.
