Beatty, Ronald Wayne
Ronald Wayne Beatty, 75, of Palo, went to farm for his Lord on July 12, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with ALS. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Mike Andrew. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg. Friends may visit Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Monday.
Ron was born Dec. 30, 1936, a twin son of J. Charles and Minnie (Weis) Beatty, in Vinton, Iowa. On Sept. 29, 1957, he married Sharon L. Kahler at the Palo Methodist Church.
Ron is survived by his wife, Sharon; four daughters, Rhonda (Lon) Speckner, Kimberly Peacock and special friend Scott, Lisa (Russell) Boyer and Gail Mattice and special friend Mike; 12 grandchildren, Brandi (Erik) McMaster, Dana (Jay) Hoffman, Joshua, Austin, Chelsea, Chase, Landen, Ciara, Myriah, Keasten, Zachary and
Mason; five great-grandsons; brother, Charles, and twin brother, Donald (Sherri); sisters, Mae (Raymond) Buelow and Mary (Charles) Koopman; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Beatty, Jennifer Ranson and Arleta (Don) Cutler; and many much loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Walter and Keith; two sisters-in-law, Marcella and Suzanne; and two nephews, Mike and Tyler.
Ron was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Shellsburg, where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir for many years. He was the head of the Fayette Township Fire Board for many years and winner of the “Linn County Outstanding Young Farmer” award in the past. He loved his farm and looked forward to spring and the baby
calves. He loved his Angus cattle and looked forward every month to the arrival of the Angus Journal.
Ron had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and play tricks.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
The family wishes to say “Thank You” to everyone who visited, sent cards, and called during Ron's illness. We especially want to thank all who helped with Ron's care. Allison, who helped with all the ordering of supplies and organizing things at our home. Those who helped take care of Ron physically: Becky and the girls of Leaping Rescue, Lea, Jen, and last but not least our amazing, Michelle. We feel that we have many additions to our family. We love you all!!
We wish to also acknowledge our fantastic hired man, who has taken all the farm work upon his shoulders and done an amazing job. We Consider Rick Coleman the son we never had. Thank You Rick.
