Romney, Gingrich like Roman gladiators
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 18, 2012 11:47 pm
If you don't give them bread, give them cake. Keep people happy and divert them from the problems facing the United States. Give them the old razzle-dazzle.
Both Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have nothing on the ancient Romans. Like the gladiators of the Roman circuses, they hack at one another during the debates, throwing blood to their screaming constituents. These men running for presidency fill the TV airways full of inaccuracies about the economy and minority issues.
Romney speaks about “the bitter politics of envy” and pretends he understands the American dream. Romney says his father marched with Martin Luther King Jr., when he did not. Rosa Parks was hardly envious of those sitting in the front of the bus, yet when she sat down she claimed the American dream as a citizen of the United States. On Feb. 1, 2012, Mr. Romney said, “I am not concerned about the poor.” He hides his wealth off shore, while singing “America the Beautiful.”
Gingrich has delusions of grandeur. Recently, he spoke to an African American church as if they were children and had no understanding of their own concerns. He insists black children have no role models and janitors should be fired, so black children can have their jobs.
Gingrich has lobbied and consulted. Romney earns money without working. Both use super pacs. They debate over who is the most crooked and who is the most immoral. Let them eat cake and think it's bread.
