Loftus, John Douglas

John Douglas Loftus, 78, of 4310 12th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Evergreen Estates after a short illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include three sons, Mark, Mike and Matt, all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Bill (Jan) of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Mary Jo Bedford of Santa Rosa, Calif.

He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Ron Jacobsen of Sheldahl; sister-in-law, Dorothy Graff of Tama; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister, Suzi.

Doug was born on Oct. 13, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ward and Betty Garner Loftus and grew up in Tama. He married Mary Ann Graff on Nov. 18, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1985. Doug worked in marketing at Rockwell for over 26 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed golf and hanging out with his friends as well as proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.
