McGriff, Christina

Christina McGriff, 35, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 12:59 p.m. Dec. 12, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born in Stamford, Conn., on May 15, 1977, she is survived by her husband of nine years, Jerrod McGriff; her father, Melvyn Wheeler; her mother, Aurelia Kelley Wheeler (Aurelius Piper); her mother-in-law, Marcella McGriff-Walton (Barry Walton); her children, Ashlee and Elkay Mooney, Amari, Aniyah, Taliah, and Brandon McGriff; her sister, Keli Gauvin; brother-in-law, Alan Gauvin; sister-in-law, Shachia Walton; nephew, Marcis Gauvin; niece, Nala Gauvin; and godson, Jamarion Smith.

Chriss graduated from Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Conn., and attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. She was employed at RuffaloCODY. She was an active member of Bethel AME Church, where she served as a Class Leader and Stewardess.

Chriss was an avid writer and published two books. She participated in poetry readings throughout the city. She loved arts and music and was dedicated to her family.

A celebration of Chriss' life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Bethel AME Church, 512 Sixth St. SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa with the Rev. William C. Perkins officiating.

A memorial fund has been established at Dupaco Credit Union, Member No. 20024211.
