Joann Louise Peterschmidt was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Fort Madison, Iowa, one of six children born to Joseph and Dorothy (Stolwyk) Peterschmidt. She was raised in Fort Madison graduating from Central Catholic High School. She was united in marriage to Paul Edwin Wolfe Jr. on Nov. 4, 1950, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. In 1958, she and Paul relocated to Hills to build a home and raise their family. She worked a number of years at the Hills Elementary School as an assistant librarian. She loved to read to the children and put her artistic talents to work creating different bulletin boards monthly.
She was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish and the Altar and Rosary Society. Joann loved to help decorate both her home and the church for Christmas. In retirement her love of arts, crafts and decorating evolved into “Wood'nStuff,” a small hobby craft business that she and Paul built that displayed their creativity at the local craft shows for several years. She loved to paint and personalize the many items they created. Yard work was not work, but a passion. She loved her flower gardens and watching the birds build their nests in the spring. Weekly Bingo was a chance to get together with her friends and share her thoughts. Most of all she was a dedicated wife and mother who always placed her family first. She will be greatly missed.
Her family includes her husband, Paul; two sons and their wives, James Wolfe and Dace Mezinskis and Ron and Cindy Wolfe of Hills; four grandchildren, Quinn Wolfe, Lindsey Wolfe, Ben Wolfe (Jessica) and Stacey Kron (Norm); one great-grandchild, Emmitt; sisters, Rose Marie Peterschnidt of Muscatine and Marilyn Beimer of Burlington; and three brothers, John Peterschmidt (Mary Rose), Daniel Peterschmidt (Linda) and Theodore Peterschmidt.
She was preceded in death by his parents.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Joann's family and her services.
