Stewart R. Salter, 63, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home on Tuesday, July 19, 2016. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Survivors include a daughter, Amie (Jes) Havlik of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Damon of Shellsburg, Clinton of Cedar Rapids and Dustin (Lisa) of Hiawatha; his mother, Jean Salter (Bill Wendel) of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Renea (Denny) Solmonson of Lisbon; and a brother, Scott (Christine) of Robins. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Brandon, Ashton, Wes, Teagan, Natalie, Noah, Makinzie and Grant.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Stewart was born Dec. 29, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Stewart and Jean Salter. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1971. Stewart married Jerri L. Dochterman in 1971 in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced.
Stewart was owner and operator of Stewart's Performance Engineering for over 35 years.
He was an active member of Hawkeye Downs Speedway and the National Hot Rod Association.
Stewart's great passion in life was mechanics; he could fix anything. He was outgoing, fun-loving and an eternal optimist. Stewart took great pride in mentoring and coaching others in all facets of life.
He enjoyed camping, boating and especially the time spent with his family and many, many friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established.
