Johnson County voters have rejected, for a third time, a bond measure to fund expansion of their historic courthouse. Cases have been backlogged for years, witnesses and defendants mingle in corridors and the historic design was not constructed to accommodate people with disabilities. What should the county do now to solve the very real issues of safety and accessibility?
FROM OUR INBOX
Could the county purchase something like the old Menards building? Then build new courtrooms and offices where those spaces would be used for civil cases only. The level of security requirement could be less. This would still allow the secure transport to and from the jail to court proceedings at the existing courthouse. This could relieve scheduling issues as well as lessen the amount of traffic within the courthouse.

' Shirley M.: Ask those who voted no to take in an inmate for the duration.
' Mike R.: I would change the majority vote if is above 55 percent then it passes.
' Brien K.: Less taxes!!!!!!!
' Lisa S.: I'm not opposed to something but the price tag needs to come down. How about a phased plan ... this much now, this much later ...
