MARION - Marion's economic development group named a new leader on Friday.
Nick Glew, director of the Main Street program through the Marion Chamber of Commerce, will succeed George Lake as president of the Marion Economic Development Co.
Lake left the agency in late June to lead Buchanan County Economic Development in Independence, where he served as extension director from 1998 to 2001.
Glew is a long time Marion resident and holds a degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Before directing the Main Street Program, he worked in marketing and private banking.
'We are excited to bring Nick on to serve as the next leader of MEDCO,” said Board Chairman Tom Barnes, president of Barnes Manufacturing, in a news release.
'Marion is a vibrant community experiencing considerable commercial growth recently. Having someone leading the organization that has an economic development background, communication skills, and a passion for our community were elements that our search committee felt were critical.”
Glew will begin his new position with MEDCO on Sept. 15.
