Rohr, John F.
John F. Rohr, 95, formerly of Marengo, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012, at Friendship Village in Schaumburg, Ill. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Gerald Rife officiating. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
John is survived by his wife, Betty of Schaumburg; two sons, Ronald Rohr of Schaumburg and Richard Rohr of Boulder, Colo.; four grandchildren, Erik Rohr and wife Cindy of Elgin, Ill., Brian Rohr of Bloomington, Ill., Alyssa Rohr of Portland, Ore., and Susanna Rohr of Boulder, Colo.; and a great-granddaughter, Tori Rohr of Elgin, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Henrietta; and four brothers, Erwin, Oscar, Carl and Loring.
John Frederick Rohr was born May 10, 1917, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Charles Rohr and Rosa Beck Rohr. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1935. John worked with his family on the farm for several years, and then served in the U.S. Army for four years during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return he married Betty Margaret Hull on Sept. 28, 1947. John owned and operated the Rohr Insurance Agency in Marengo for many years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marengo and Marengo American Legion Post 76. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club, Masons, and served on the Marengo Memorial Hospital board.
A memorial fund has been established.
