Gibney, Lauren T.
Lauren T. Gibney, 85, of Palo, died Thursday Dec. 13, 2012, in Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. John Howerton. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Gibney, a daughter, Jackie (Danny) Gardemann, and a son, Jerry Gibney and friend, Marlene, all of Palo; his grandchildren, Rhonda (Scott) Murr of Munice, Ind., Chad (Liz) Gardemann of Phoenix, Ariz., Jimmy Gibney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Aaron Gibney of Palo, Iowa; and his great-grandchildren, Kendall Murr, Kylie Murr, Landry Gardemann, and Bennett Gardemann. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John P. Gibney.
Lauren was born May 20, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, the son of John and Ethyle (Colgan) Gibney. He married Mary Maxine McVay on Dec. 15, 1945, in San Antonio, Texas.
Lauren was always a hardworking man to make sure his family was well cared for. He started his 52 years in the dairy industry hauling can milk from farms and then worked for Sanitary Farm Dairy. Lauren was also a part owner of the Palo Locker for several years and also made ice cream for retail sale. He also owned and operated Tri County Dairy and Bindler's Dairy as a private distributor starting with Sanitary Farm Dairies, Meadow Gold, Borden's, Kemp's and Anderson Erickson Dairy until his retirement in 1995. Lauren gained a lot of friends from his many years in business and it was also said by former employees you couldn't have found a better man and friend to work for.
He was a member of the Palo American Legion and Palo United Methodist Church. He loved hunting, traveling, spending time in Branson, and tinkering with his ice cream machines, which he loved to do almost to the end. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Lauren was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family extends a very special thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center, Mercy Home Health Care, and all of his many doctors who cared for Lauren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Palo United Methodist Church.
