L. Mardene Janko, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away June 14, 2014. Memorial services: 10 a.m. July 12, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. July 11 at the funeral home.
Mardene was born to Lloyd and Ellen Long on Nov. 30, 1930. She resided in Solon and Center Point, and after a lengthy illness was at Evergreen Estates II in Cedar Rapids the past four years.
Mardene excelled in school, was active in high school band, a cappella choir, drama and debate team. She married Marvin Janko and they divorced.
She is survived by Michael and Deborah Janko, Carole and Gordon Wear, Craig and Pamela Wear and Cherlyn and Don McLain; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; and several cousins.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff and nurses at Evergreen for their excellent care during her time with them and also to Mercy Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Evergreen Estates II resident account or Mercy Hospice in memory of Mardene.
