Owens, Dessie 'Jean'
Dessie "Jean" Owens, 77, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Church of the King in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Don Glazier officiating. Friends may register at the church until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family at: 2573 Linn-Benton Rd., Palo, IA 52324.
"Jean" was born April 3, 1932, in Palo to John M. and Hattie Lucille (Penrose) Owens. She graduated from Palo High School in 1949 and then graduated from the University of Arizona. Jean taught in the Palo School District before her retirement.
She is survived by sister, Janis Owens, brother, John Owens, and sister-in-law, Connie Owens, all of Palo; nieces and nephews, John E. Owens, Sheri J. Mullinex, Jerome E. Owens, Joseph "Flint" Owens, Zale E. Owens, Lisa L. Etten and Janson S. Collins; and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joseph E. Owens.
