Authorities in western Wisconsin say a 32-year-old Iowa man has died after he was struck by a freight train.
The Buffalo County sheriff's office says Christopher J. White of Dubuque, Iowa died early Thursday in Fountain City, Wis.
White was a chief petty officer in the Coast Guard. He was walking back to his boat about 2:30 a.m. and was talking on a cell phone when he was hit by a train.
Authorities estimate the train was traveling between 40 and 45 mph.
White was pronounced dead at the scene. A companion who was with him was unhurt.
Authorities suspect alcohol may have been a factor in White's death.
