MOUNT TRASHMORE TRANSFORMATION — The long-anticipated makeover of Mount Trashmore, as the old landfill is affectionately known, is underway, but a ski hill or a timber-filled peak — which some had wished for — aren't in the plans. Instead, visitors will get an observation deck from atop Mount Trashmore, 2250 A St. SW. — one of the highest points in Cedar Rapids — offering panoramic views of downtown, factories, neighborhoods and forests along the Cedar River. CEDAR RAPIDS LIBRARY HONORED — Less than two years ago, Cedar Rapids voters rejected a tax levy to help fund operations at the Cedar Rapids Public Library, which led to reduced hours and elimination of positions in an effort to cut the budget. On Monday, there was a different mood in the room as officials announced the library has received the nation's highest honor given to museums and libraries that make significant and exceptional contributions to their communities. CENTRAL CITY MAN's 'PRICE IS RIGHT' — Wearing a vibrant blue T-shirt with the words 'Drew is priceless' across his chest, Thomas Hagedorn sat in a Hollywood, Calif., television studio hoping he'd hear his name called. KITTLE 'STUNS' PRO WRESTLING CROWD — George Kittle has turned pro in two different sports, hoping to be as big a hit in football as he is in wrestling. Kittle left his Iowa City home for San Francisco Sunday to participate in the 49ers' OTA (organized team activity) workouts for the next month. The former Iowa Hawkeyes tight end was a 49ers' fifth-round draft pick last month. Saturday night, Kittle made a surprise appearance at a professional wrestling event.
