Better wages, time to control spending

The proof is in the pudding. The tax cuts are working and you can see the effects are seen everywhere in the economy. Private sector workers received the biggest pay raise in years.
Our area is seeing great benefits from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, too. Alliant Energy announced lower rates for their customers due to tax reform. Local businesses, both big and small, like Cedar Rapids Toyota, Home Depot, Ohnward Bank, Chipotle and U-Haul have announced employee bonuses into the thousands. Many have announced raises in their company minimum wages and charitable giving.
But the Washington D.C. swamp has a lot of work left to do by getting wasteful spending under control. We must make a continuing effort the reduce the federal deficit.
Congressman Blum always keeps his word, and I thank him for voting no on the recent $1.3 trillion Omnibus. He is a leader on fiscal issues and one of the last true fiscal hawks in Congress. We are lucky to have him representing us in Washington DC.
